THE CALL

There is a call going out to all of us…man, woman, young, old, rich, poor…it is a call to follow Jesus.

“Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.” Matthew 16:24,25 (See Mark 8:34-36)

The call asks us to take up our cross. Only those who do so are His disciples.

“Anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.” Luke 14:27

THE CHOICE

Those who take up the cross make a choice. It’s a choice of who and what is most important in life.

"Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” Matthew 10:37-39

We are to be proud of our Jesus as we follow Him.

“Then he said to them all: ‘If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self? If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.’” Luke 9:23-26

The cross is vital to us as His followers, but strange to the people around us who don’t know Him.

“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: ‘I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.’" I Corinthians 1:18,19

THE CROSS

It is the work of Christ on the cross that saves us and prepares us for eternal life.

“When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” Colossians 2:13-15

Those who follow Christ (the Cross Community) understand that they are saved by what Jesus did on the cross. They are humbled.

“May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” Galatians 6:14

THE COURAGE

People of the Cross Community choose to keep their eyes on Jesus. He is their strength.

“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” Hebrews 12:2,3

THE CHALLENGE

The challenge to the Cross Community is to begin a movement of one…a movement to lift up Jesus Christ in their lives. They seek any and all opportunities to let Jesus touch the world around them…one person at a time.

“Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.” John 3:14,15

When Jesus is lifted up by the Cross Community, He will do the work of bringing people to Himself.

“But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself." John 12:32
